Nepal has long standing bilateral treaties with the United Kingdom since 1923, India since 1950, and china since 1960.[19][20] The Military of Nepal is the fifth Largest in South Asia and is notable for its Gorkha History, particularly during the world wars, and has been a significant contributor to United Nations Peacekeeping operations.

Modern Nepal is a federal secular parliamentary republic. It has seven states . Nepal is a developing nation, ranking 145th on the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2014.

Medicine in Nepal

Currently there are four categories of MBBS College in Nepal-those are that affiliated with Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu Universities, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science and Patan academy of health science.

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a four and half year integrated program followed by a compulsory internship training of one year. Generally the MBBS program is divided into three parts. The first two years of study consists of basic medical science. These years also includes an introduction to clinical science. Bachelor Of Medicine And Bachelor Of Surgery(MBBS Program)

Medical colleges in Nepal provide a four-and-a-half-years MBBS degree program in all the preclinical subjects and selected clinical subjects. The four and a half years MBBS course is divided into 9 semesters of 6 months each. Upon successful completion of the course, students will undergo a 1 year compulsory residential rotating internship. The medium of instruction is English.

MBBS Curriculium-Preclinical (Semesters I-IV)

The first and second years of instruction cover integrated preclinical Sciences, Community Medicine, Introduction to clinical Medicine and Medical Informatics. Preclinical Science includes Anatomy, Microbiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology & Physiology. These subjects are taught in and integrated manner and are incorporated into Community Medicine and introduction to clinical Medicine. Students gain clinical knowledge and problem solving skills. Medical informatics is integrated to provide computer expertise relevant to medical education.

At the end of the first year and second year there are university examinations on each of the above subjects. A student must complete all subjects of the practical sciences- first year MBBS within three from the date of admission & second year within four from the date of admission.

A student is required to pass all the preclinical subjects before he/she is allowed to be promoted to the clinical sciences (Semester V)

Clinical Sciences [Semester V-IX]

Clinical sciences include the subjects of forensic Medicine .Community Medicine, Ophthalmology {ENT} Medicine & Allied Subjects [Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, Emergency Medicine &More], Obstertrics & Gynaecology , Paediatrics and other allied medical and surgical specialities & subspecialities.

The third year MBBS university examinations in Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine Ophtalmology are held at the end of the seventh semester. A student cannot be admitted to the ninth semester until he/she has passed all four subjects. At the end of nine semesters are the final MBBS university examinations in Medicine and Allied Subjects, Surgery and Allied Subjects, Obstetrics & Gynaecology & Paediatrics.

Clinical training is conducted at the Concerned Medical Teaching Hospital and Associated Local hospitals.

Evaluation

A system of continuous evaluation is followed through fortnightly tests. semester exams end-posting evaluation, seminars & problem based learning sessions. The continuous evaluation system has helped to achieve excellent results in the university examinations.

Teaching Methodology

The teaching program in preclinical consists of

Fortnightly academic time tables are prepared, giving details of the teaching program with topics to be covered. These are put up well in advance. To support the integrated approach, seminars and PBLs are conducted every fortnight on important diseases/syndromes. This Gives the preclinical students a better clinical orientation of the systems being taught. Concurrent evaluation is done by fortnightly test, viva -voce, seminars and PBLs .Semester examinations are held at the end of each 5 months. The Teaching Program in Clinical Sciences consists of :

  • Didactic classroom lectures
  • Clinical / Practical training in hospitals, wards/Community visits/Field training camp
  • Symposia / Seminar
  • Clinical meeting / Faculty talks / Guest Lectures

The above teaching sessions take an average of forty two hours/week, out of which there are 12 didactic lectures per week. The stress is mainly on Clinical/ Practical training. The Students are Periodically Assessed by conducting end posting clinical exams [Clinical and Viva], mid-Semester Exams and end-semester exams.

Internship

One Year of rotating internship is compulsory. The Kathmandu University and Nepal Medical Council have approved six different schemes for internship for student of different countries,as per the requirements of their medical council. Eligibility Criteria

A. MBBS Course Durations : 4.5 Year + 1 Year Internship

Must have passed qualifying examinations (HSC/’A’ Level) or equivalent examinations with any one of the following conditions:

  • Completed 10+2 years of education or equivalent with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and not less than 50% of marks in each subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB).
  • Age should be at least 17 years by the last date of submission of application are eligible to apply in the MBBS or BDS courses.
  • At least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English i.e. minimum ‘C’ grades for Sri Lankan and ‘D’ grades for international boards (EDEXCEL/Cambridge, etc) at the ‘A’ Level or equivalent examination.
  • If English is not opted at the ‘A’ level, then at least 50% marks in English at ‘O’ level or equivalent examinations.
  • TOEFEL / IELTS / SAT are not required
B. Application form for admission into medical colleges in Nepal is available in the month of July/August which can be collected from the consultancy office.

C. Admission will be subject to the Kathmandu University/Tribhuwan University norms and qualifying an entrance exam conducted by the Kathmandu University/Tribhuwan University, for which the applicants are advised to consult the consultancy.
D. Application Fee to Apply in the MBBS/BDS Course in Nepal

The application form to apply in the concerned college in Nepal will be approx 50 USD (Non Refundable) & approx 35 USD to appear for the University Entrance Examination which will be conducted in Nepal.
